The Only Presidential Candidate Serious About Repealing ObamaCare
Monday, April 4, 2016
WASHINGTON, DC –Heading into tomorrow’s presidential primary contest in Wisconsin, only one candidate for President has signed The ObamaCare Repeal Pledge: Senator Ted Cruz.
Senator Ted Cruz is the only candidate in the presidential race to put pen to paper, proving to voters that he is committed to dissolving ObamaCare and resolving our healthcare crisis with a superior patient-centered plan. Senator Cruz knows that citizens and their doctors, not government bureaucrats, should have choice and control over health care, and that market-driven reforms will lead to great affordability and access.
Despite having been asked to sign the Repeal Pledge numerous times, Donald Trump and Governor John Kasich have not taken The Pledge.
Mr. Trump’s refusal to sign is especially troubling for voters given that Mr. Trump has applauded the UK’s single-payer system, has said he's "very liberal when it comes to health care," and most recently said he likes the individual mandate, the cornerstone that props up ObamaCare. In Ohio, Governor Kasich expanded Medicaid under ObamaCare, with the projected cost of expansion equating to more than double what Kasich’s administration projected.
The Repeal Pledge advocates not just repeal, but defunding, deauthorizing, and dismantling the misleadingly-titled Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, passed in early 2010. Repeal Pledge was designed as a litmus test to help the American public understand which candidates and office holders are serious about repealing the misleadingly titled Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, versus those who claim to be but won't actually take action.
Since the Repeal Pledge recognized that the law could not be repealed while President Obama remained in office, it has also encouraged partial victories in the interim, like trying to stop unwarranted payments to health insurance companies, and has discouraged counterproductive actions, such as Medicaid expansion.
