Independent Women's Voice on Senate Repeal Vote: We See Where They Stand
Washington, D.C. — Independent Women’s Voice President & CEO Heather Higgins today praised Florida Federal Judge Roger Vinson's ruling of the individual mandate in the health care law passed last March, “the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”, as unconstitutional and unseverable from the rest of the law, thus striking it down in its entirety.
“Health care is not a left or right issue; we all want accessible quality care, affordably delivered. But the law that was passed without being first read accomplishes none of those things. Instead it tramples our constitutional liberties and capacity for choice and control in our own lives.
“Judge Vinson joins Judge Henry Hudson of Virginia in finding the individual mandate in ObamaCare was unconstitutional,” said Higgins. “But unlike the Virginia ruling, this decision strikes down the entirety of the law.
“This is the most sweeping repudiation of the deeply unpopular health care law yet.And it is actionable: Judge Vinson made a point of reminding federal officers that it would be inappropriate to do anything to implement the law, and that they need to adhere to the law as declared by the court.
“The courtroom, however, is only one front in the battle to empower Americans with the freedom to choose and control their own health care decisions,” continued Higgins. “We continue to call on the US Senate to respect the will of the American people and pass HR2 — the full and complete repeal of ObamaCare just recently passed by the House. We need a fresh and credible start.”
